Earl Leon Luckes Sr., 70, of Walker, Minn., died Friday, May 2, 2008, at his home in rural Walker, Minn.
He was born July 18, 1937, in Flint, Mich., to Earl and Opal (Ballard) Luckes. He grew up in Fenton, Mich., and graduated from high school in 1955. Following high school he went to junior college where he earned a business degree. He married Judy Cronkright Nov. 30, 1963. The couple lived in Michigan until 1973, when they moved their family to the Twin Cities area, due to a job transfer, and lived there for 35 years.
He worked in sales management for 25 years with Sisco, Inc. He was currently working for Smith Systems which specializes in industrial furnishings for schools.
Over the years the family enjoyed spending many weekends in the lakes area and, in 1998, the couple retired to Walker.
He always found time to fish, which was his favorite way to spend time. Although he continued to work in sales during his retirement, he was an active member of the Northstar Sportsmen Club where he spent time shooting, building and sharing stories with friends. His humor and servant heart will be missed. He loved to help people and will be remembered for being a “tough guy” and tenderhearted as he lived life.
He was a great cook, with pie-baking as one of his specialities, and loved to share pies with the neighbors. He was also one of the faithful fish fryers at the Walker Community Church Fish Fries, where he attended services regularly and was a past trustee.
He is survived by his wife Judy; one daughter, Perri Lynn (Dave Larson); one son, Earl Luckes, Jr. (Holly); one grandson, Steven James Luckes; one sister, Joanne Ray; one aunt, Myrtle Smith; and one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
