One week into the NFL season and Vikings might be celebrating their home win, but they also are lamenting the anemic offense in the fourth quarter.
Kirk Cousins looked fabulous in the first half, but with the game still in doubt, he was pathetic. He missed on several passes and nearly had a couple picked off. The offensive line couldn’t open any holes and it looks like it might be a long year, and the play calling was deplorable.
If not for a bone-headed offsides on what everyone knew was a ploy to get the 49ers to jump offsides, the game could have gone into overtime.
And what about the interception Xavier Rhodes had in San Francisco territory and having to punt four plays later? No wonder Coach Mike Zimmer throws up before games. Minnesota should have gone for the jugular to give them a two-possession lead.
How about those Gophers! They got a great home win over a very good Fresno State team that was predicted to be a Top 10 team.
Bring on those Hawkeyes, Spartans, Buckeyes and Badgers. I see a Rose Bowl in the future!
The winner of the week was Pat Montague of Backus with a 14-3-1 record. I finished 11-6-1 because Indianapolis, New Orleans, San Diego and Detroit looked pathetic in their home-openers.
This week I’m taking Ohio State, Auburn and Oklahoma State in college games. In the NFL let’s go with Carolina, Houston, Philadelphia, Kansas City, San Diego and the NY Giants on the road, while Washington, NY Jets, New Orleans, San Francisco, LA Rams, Jacksonville, Denver, Chicago and the Green Bay Packers. I want to take Minnesota, because they have the most talent, but Aaron Rodgers is playing, and even if he gets his leg amputated he can still win the game.
