In celebration of her 25 years in business, Northern Exposure owner Jan Henrickson is having a 25-day sale.

Jan Henrickson started Northern Exposure in downtown Walker 25 years ago.

Before that, she had bought Reed’s Gifts from Jeff Arnold and for three years, ran both stores. She then sold Reed’s Gifts and concentrated on developing Northern Exposure. Major exterior and interior changes were needed at Northern Exposure because for many years, it had been an apparel store.

Four years later, Jan bought the building next door, previously the Baker Kimball Law Office. After more exterior and interior renovations, it was “all” Northern Exposure.

Jan had previous retail experience as she worked at Walker Drug for four summers while attending Walker High School. While a student at Bemidji State University, she worked her way through college, working at Glass Block Drug.

Every summer she pursued something new, which included working at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and as a summer a camp counselor and instructor at Camp Taconic in Hinsdale, Mass.

After graduating from BSU, she taught at Bemidji High School, Mankato, Rochester and Great Falls, Mont.

A special thank you from Jan for supporting her, which made Northern Exposure succeed!
