The Walker Talkers team members who competed at the Grand Rapids Early Bird, with seven of them bringing home ribbons.

Negative temperatures did not keep the Walker Talkers from competing this past Saturday at the annual Grand Rapids Early Bird Tournament.

Although still early in the season, our hometown team came prepared. Thirteen veteran speakers competed in three rounds, while a few new members observed the tournament in preparation to compete in upcoming tournaments.Whether they competed or not, all attendees left the tournament with experience gained.

There was no final round, but our speakers took home multiple awards signifying their achievement. White, red and blue ribbons were awarded to the top tiered competitors within each category.

Leo Burns earned a white ribbon in Humorous Interpretation, Sophie Landreville white in Poetry and Logan Wales a white ribbon in Dramatic Interpretation.

Lily Burns earned a red ribbon in Humorous Interpretation and Jayda Dickson a red ribbon in Informative.

Lastly, Molly Massar earned a blue ribbon in Storytelling and Willow Damar a blue ribbon in Dramatic Interpretation.

Overall, Walker placed fourth out of 13 other schools competing.

The team will be traveling a bit further this next weekend to Marshall for the annual Speech Spectacular Meet. Varsity speakers, grades 9-12, will be attending this two-day tournament with other nationwide schools. Not only do they attend this meet to compete, but also to observe and learn from some of the best competitors in the area to gain more insight into the competitive world of speech.
