The Walker Talkers took third place at the Grand Rapids Invite and also brought home 11 medals and ribbons.

The Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Speech Team boarded the bus Saturday to compete at the final invitational tournament of the season.

This tournament, hosted by Grand Rapids, marked the final opportunity for WHA speakers to compete before the subsection 29A tournament at Blackduck.

Speakers earning ribbons were Leo Burns red ribbon in Humor, Lily Burns red ribbon in Humor and Sophia Landreville red ribbon in Poetry.

Those advancing to the final round of their category and earning a medal were Dylan Johnson third in Extemp. Reading, Katelyn DeLost third in Creative, Logan Wales third in Drama, Willow Damar first in Drama, Lily Pederson first in Humor, Molly Massar first in Storytelling, Geo Morris first in Prose and Reagan Tabaka first in Informative.

In the team sweepstakes, WHA placed third out of 21 schools. Bemidji took first, followed by Eveleth-Gilbert.

By the time this article is printed, the team will have competed at subsections in Blackduck. This is first elimination tournament of the season, and the top four speakers from each category will advanced to the Section 8A Tournament in Fosston April 5. From there, the top three speakers in each category will advance to the state tournament in Apple Valley. With a strong showing at Grand Rapids, the team anticipates high numbers moving to the section tournament.
