The Walker Talkers placed first overall at the Subsection 29A Speech Meet and brought home 16 individual medals.

Last week the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Speech Team competed at the Subsection 29A Speech Tournament.

The Walker Talkers advanced 16 speakers out of the subsection and placed first overall, claiming the subsection title for the third consecutive year.

Six teams competed at the tournament, including Blackduck, Laporte, Cass Lake- Bena, Trek North, Fosston-Bagley and WHA.

In the team sweepstakes, Blackduck took second, Fosston-Bagley third, followed by Cass Lake-Bena and Laporte respectively.

Speakers who placed within the top four of their category advanced to the Section 8A tournament that will be held Friday at Fosston.

The following speakers who advance to the Section 8A Tournament were Katelyn DeLost third in Creative; Natalie Resch-Seely third and Ada Muller fourth in Discussion; Willow Damar first and Logan Wales second in Drama; Dylan Johnson first in Extemp. This tournament was the first elimination tournament of the season. Friday, the speakers compete against the other advancing speakers from subsections 30 and 31. The top three speakers in each category will advance to the state tournament. Section 8A is comprised of high quality teams and speakers.

Those competing will have to perform at their highest ability in each round if they hope to make a state appearance. With that said, the Walker Talkers will be working hard this week, and with the momentum from a solid subsection appearance, they hope to send speakers to the state tournament.
