The Walker Area Community Center (WACC) will be reducing its operating costs with the replacement of HVAC units. The original units were expensive to operate and repair, resulting in excessive costs to heat and cool the building.
Facilitated by a small business loan and a federal grant, new units were installed in the spring. The high-efficiency units will result in significant savings that will pay for the loan and reduce the WACC’s operating expenses.
The federal grant administered by Cass County was the American Recovery Plan Act of 2021. The grant provided financial assistance to businesses and organizations recovering from the pandemic. As required by the grant, air purification systems were installed to reduce microorganisms from the ventilation air stream, including the virus responsible for COVID-19.
In addition to reduced expenses, the new HVAC units provide a more comfortable experience to WACC members and visitors. More building improvements are planned to enhance the user experience and encourage people to return to the WACC for recreation and exercise.
The WACC is a nonprofit organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the US IRS code.
