Florence Leona Buck of Bartlesville, Okla. and formerly of Walker, Minn., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at her home in Bartlesville.
She was born Sept. 14, 1945, in Bartlesville to Wilford Ray and Elsie Lenora (Johnson) Sommers. She married Ken Neptune Dec. 23, 1964. In 1966, they moved to Norman, Okla. She was employed by the Humble Oil Co. in Oklahoma City from 1966 to 1967, and with the John Roberts Co. in Norman from 1967 to 1972. In 1972 she began working for the state of Oklahoma as a human resources director at the J.D. McCarty Center and Leland Wolfe Center, both in Norman, until 1993, when she and her husband moved to Walker. There she worked at the Ah-Gwah-Ching Center until she retired due to ill health and moved back to Bartlesville in 1999. She coached boys’ baseball, played fast-pitch softball and enjoyed fishing.
She is survived by one son, Kevin of Dallas, Texas; her cousin, Patty Barkley and aunt, Mary Kreigh, both of Bartlesville; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society, in care of Cancer Care Associates, 3470 S.E. Frank Phillips Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
Memorial services were held Jan. 16 at Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlesville.
