John met Betty Deinken in New Ulm in the early 1960s. They were married on Nov. 26, 1976.
After a long career as an electrician, John retired from Local 343 I.B.E.W. in 1987. Betty also retired that year from 3M in New Ulm, and they made Birch Lake their year-round home, much to their enjoyment as well as that of their family and friends. During this time, John’s love of woodworking flourished, and his creations still grace many lake homes near and far.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a young sister; stepdaughter, Joanne; and son-in-law, Jon Reckner.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Annabelle Schaeffer; brother, David; stepsons, Mike (Sharon) Deinken, Bruce (Mary) Deinken, Brian Deinken; stepdaughter, Bev (Bob) Pipkin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
