The second FrostFest was held at the Walker City Park Feb. 9. We celebrated our unique northern Minnesota winter with ice golf, live music, lumberjack games of log cutting, ax throwing and sled pulling, while conversing and warming ourselves by the fire and enjoying locally made brews and food. It was truly a wonderful winter outing for the entire family and community!
The FrostFest Committee would like to sincerely thank our sponsors for having such a caring and giving heart, because without their financial support for this event, it would not have been possible. With your donations, we were able to provide not only a day of fun for the entire family and our community but it also provides additional opportunities for Walker-Hackensack-Akeley students to attend Deep Portage Learning Center in Hackensack.
Part of our mission is to promote outdoor learning for our area youth. Deep Portage is the ideal partner as a local, residential environmental learning center. Together we made a difference in our community!
“When Deep Portage Learning Center was asked to partner with the Leech Lake FrostFest as their nonprofit beneficiary of the event, we never dreamed of the enormous impact that FrostFest could have on not only our organization but also the local area youth,” stated Brooke Piepenburg, school coordinator at Deep Portage Learning Center. “With the funds donated to Deep Portage from FrostFest, we are able to offer the chance to extend the WHA fourth-grade winter field trip from a two-day, one-night, to a three-day, two-night adventure! Any remaining funds will go toward scholarships to cover some or all of the summer camp tuition for local area youth from WHA Schools. These opportunities to experience the Deep Portage woods, water and wildlife would otherwise not be possible if it weren’t for FrostFest’s passion for giving back to the local environment and youth. Thank you, FrostFest!”
The following is a list of our generous sponsors: Leer Title, Bank Forward, Walker American Legion, Walker Legion Auxiliary, Anderson’s Grand Vu Lodge, Pederson Dental, Hidden Paradise Builders, First National Bank North, First National Insurance, Stille Havn Hus, Kaffe Havn, Z99, Chase on the Lake, Moondance Events, Interstate Traffic Signs, City Sanitary, Log Homes of Minnesota, Reed’s Family Outdoor Outfitters, Northern Star Cenex and the Leech Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Thank you to our volunteers. We couldn’t do this event without you. Special thanks to the City of Walker for all of their assistance to make this event possible.
Leech Lake FrostFest is committed to bringing family and community together to celebrate winter while preserving and enjoying our local environment.
We’re looking forward to the next FrostFest, March 14, 2020!
