First-period goals by Jack Slagle and Cody Sagen got the Panthers right back into Monday night’s game at Prairie Centre.
Prairie Centre, who beat Park Rapids-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 5-1 earlier this season, responded by scoring three times in the second and once in the third for a 6-2 win.
The North Stars grabbed the momentum early by scoring just 2:49 into the game on the power play, and two minutes later went up 2-0.
Slagle’s goal set by Thomas Melvin a short time later got the Panthers back into the game. Sagen’s goal at 10:15 was assisted by Carter Opheim.
Two goals in the first 2:19 of the second period swung the momentum back in favor of the North Stars. A third goal nine minutes later extended the lead to three with a second power play goal coming in the third.
The North Stars scored twice on the power play while the Panthers went 0-5.
Each team had 10 penalties with the Panthers sitting in the box for 31 minutes and the North Stars nine minutes longer.
Brendan Kruchowski finished the night with 30 saves, while Isaiah DeFoe got the win with 22 saves.
The loss drops the Panthers to 5-17 with three games remaining in the regular season.
This week the Panthers travel to Red Lake Falls and host Kittson County at the Walker Area Community Center.
Detroit Lakes comes to Park Rapids next week for both teams’ final regular season game.
