Four of the seven Walker-Hackensack-Akeley-Nevis wrestlers who competed at the Ogilvie Lion Invitational Saturday placed.
Seniors Carter Rettke and Austin Smith both took third, Gavin Damar was fifth and Colton Jacob finished sixth.
In his first 132-pound match, Rettke started off with a 7-4 decision over Brandt Bombard of North Branch. After losing 14-0 to Jacob Leibold of Royalton-Upsala, Rettke beat Zach Clark of Saint Croix Falls 8-4 for the bronze medal.
Smith went 3-1 at 182, winning two by decision and one by fall. He started off with a 7-2 decision and followed that with a pin in 41 seconds. In the semifinals, he got caught midway through the second period by Cody Dravis of Park Rapids, who went on to take first place.
In the third-place match, Smith beat Randy Mugisha of Minneapolis Edison 5-1.
Damar went 2-1 at the invite, getting his two wins with pins. The day didn’t start off well as he lost a 16-3 decision, but he pinned Gabe Ridlon of Crosby-Ironton in 29 seconds, and in the fifth-place match stuck Chad Baumann of Ogilvie in 33 seconds.
Jacob also started off losing his first 160-pound match, but won his next two with pins in the second period. In the fifth-place match, Jacob lost a narrow 8-6 decision to James Kemp of Saint Croix Falls.
Dawson McGee, Eli Johnson and Zach Stevenson each went 0-2.
Of the 14 teams competing, the Wrestling Wolves finished 13th with 48 points. Saint Croix Falls took first with 197 points, Blackduck-Cass Lake-Bena took second with 166, Royalton-Upsala was third with 154.5 and Park Rapids took fourth with 148 points.
