March Madness is just around the corner and so is the 24th annual Jim Morrison Memorial Basketball Classic.
This year will mark our 24th year of fundraising, and the Classic has raised more than $100,000 for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society MN Chapter.
This year’s event is March 23, with games starting at noon. All proceeds will go toward the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society MN Chapter to help research, doctors and patients in search of a cure for cancer.
The Morrison Classic started 24 years ago when our father, Jim Morrison, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. With the hope to help raise funds for medical costs combined with our father’s love of competition and basketball, the Morrison Classic pickup basketball tournament was created. The mission was and is to help those in need through community involvement and the game of basketball: the Walker area community and our family has been carrying on this tradition ever since.
The Morrison family would like to extend an invitation to anyone and everyone to join us for a special day of fundraising, fellowship and basketball! If you’re interested in playing all you need to do is register and show up ready to play. We build teams the day of the tournament and create teams with fairness and fun in mind. You don’t have to be an elite basketball player to play in the Classic; all skill levels are welcomed and encouraged to come and play (we usually put you on teams with people you know).
For those of you who aren’t basketball players and are not interested in playing, we still would love to have you cheering, watching, catching up with old friends or volunteering.
We are proud to be a part of the Walker community and could not have continued this great tradition without the support of so many individuals and businesses in the Walker area. Thanks to all who attended and donated over the years, and we hope to have your continued support this year!
