Laporte’s baseball season came to an end Thursday night as they fell 11-0 in five innings to Sebeka in the opening round of the Section 5A playoffs.
The loss left the Wildcats winless on the season at 0-11. Sebeka, the No. 1 seed, will now face No. 5 Hill City-Northland, who beat No. 4 Pine River-Backus 8-3 Thursday night.
Coach Randy Reimer said his guys played well against a very good team, they just couldn’t get the bats going.
Gibson Smith had Laporte’s only two hits. He had a single in the first and a single in the third.
The third inning was the only time Laporte threatened to score. Chris McDougall reached on a one-out walk and Smith’s single with two outs put runners at the corners. In an attempt to gain an advantage and cut into Sebeka’s big lead, Smith got too far off first and was tagged out in a run-down.
Sebeka scored three times in the first and added seven more runs in the second.
Alex Forseman pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits, two walks and striking out five.
Colby Kaiser went three innings to get the win. Kaiser allowed two hits, one walk and fanned seven.
Spencer Lake pitched the fourth and struck out two, and Laporte went down in order in the fifth.
