The Northland boys won two of three games last week and this week have three left in the regular season as look to improve their position in the Section 7A Tournament.
Friday night the Eagles got off to a great start, grabbed a 27-point halftime lead and coasted to an 81-61 win at Onamia.
Coach Chris Carson said it was an all-around good performance. “The guys shot the ball well, played good defense and we limited their second-chance opportunities.”
Cameron Wake led all scoring with 26 points, Kane Perkins finished with 20 and Alec Wake scored 11. Perkins also had 15 rebounds for his second double-double of the week, while Cameron Wake had four assists and four steals.
Harris Carlson finished with nine points and Carson Johnson scored seven and pulled down five boards.
Leading Onamia was Josh Parrow with 24 points, and Brandon Nickaboine added 13 points.
Northland hosts Northome-Kelliher, and travels to Wrenshall and Fond du Lac to finish the regular season this week.
Northland wins by 40
The Eagles did just about everything right in the second half as they outscored Cherry 43-13 to turn what was a close game into an 82-42 blow out at home Feb. 19.
“Defensively we shut them down in the second half, and just played a really good game,” the coach said.
Four Eagles finished in double figures with Perkins recording a double-double with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Carlson finished with 16 points and seven assists, Cameron Wake tossed in 14 points and had five assists, and Carson Johnson scored 11 points. Carlson also had six boards and three steals.
Gavin Constantine and David Clement each scored 12 points to lead Cherry.
Drakes explode in 2nd half
Northland only trailed host Blackduck by eight points at the half, and that was despite two starters sitting in foul trouble.
The second half did not go in favor of the Eagles as the Drakes easily won 105-64 Thursday night.
“We couldn’t make a basket and they made everything,” Coach Carlson said.
The Eagles had four players score at least nine points with Cameron Wake leading with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Alec Wake scored 15 points and Carlson had 10 points and four assists.
Perkins finished with nine points and five rebounds, and Nathan Johnson pulled down six board.
Dylan Moen led the Drakes with 47 points and Kobe Arp scored 13.
