The Park Rapids-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys’ hockey season came to an end Feb. 19 as Red Lake Falls scored in the second overtime for a 3-2 win.
Zak Kennett got the game-winner as he scored short-handed 5:51 into the second extra session.
The Panthers dominated the shot chart 51-23, including 13-4 in the first period, despite trailing 1-0, and 25-13 over the next two periods.
Goals by Cody Sagen and Cameron Hoyt gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. It appeared that lead might hold up until Logan Klipping scored with 1:52 remaining.
Carter Opheim, Alec Nordin and Jack Slagle each had an assist.
In the first seven-minute overtime, the Panthers had a two-to-one shot advantage but couldn’t get anything by Andrew Johnson, who finished with 49 saves. Brendan Kruchowski had 20 saves for the Panthers.
The loss ends the careers for WHA seniors Logan Arndt, Opheim, Jensen Rice and Sagen.
