Walker-Hackensack-Akeley second-grader Carson Jacob took second place at the Northwoods Youth Wrestling Association State Tournament at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

Jacob, who headed to state undefeated and finishes the season 28-1, was one of four Wrestling Wolves who qualified for the April 5-7 tournament. The others were second-grader Chase Whitney, third-grader Peyton Richter and sixth-grader Callen Whitney. Chase Whitney finished the season 20-4, Richter had a 38-10 record and Callen Whitney was 20-5.

Fifth-grader Dylan Hedren, who finished fourth at Regions, took second at the invite, which is held at the same time.

Ten Walker-Hackensack-Akeley-Nevis wrestlers qualified for the Regional Tournament held March 30 in Bemidji. The top three places move on to the state tournament, while those who finish fourth through sixth compete at the invite.

Jacob took first at 75 pounds, Richter was second, Chase Whitney and Callen Whitney each took third, and eighth-grader Dawson McGee and Hedren were both fourth. Eighth-grader Eli Johnson, who took second at Regions,  did not wrestle at state.

First-grader Grant Orton, third-grader Blake Orton and fifth-grader Gavin Swanson came up short of qualifying for state.

The boys were coached by Pat Wood and Dave McGee.
